Announcing MELSE (Mathematics Education & Lesson Study in Europe) a new network for mathematics and LS

Mathematics Education and Lesson Study in Europe (MELSE) Research Meeting 2018

On 15th and 16th of March 2018, a meeting of Mathematics Education and Lesson Study researchers from across Europe will be held in the UCD School of Mathematics & Statistics, Dublin, Ireland.

This event is proposed as a first meeting of the emerging community of European researchers whose work focuses both on Mathematics Education and on Lesson Study.

The meeting will take the form of a research working group, where researchers will have the opportunity to present and discuss work which is in progress or has been completed. Presentations of research will include considerable time for discussion, similar to the format of Thematic Working Groups at CERME conferences. Researchers who do not wish to present, but wish to contribute to collaborative discussions around mathematics education and lesson study, are also welcome to attend.

We extend an invitation to researchers throughout Europe who are interested in Mathematics Education and Lesson Study to register for this event. In registering, and in order to assist with the organisation of the event, we would ask you to indicate whether you may be interested in presenting research at the meeting.

In an attempt to keep administrative work as simple as possible, there will be no fee for registration and participants will be required to secure their own accommodation in Dublin. Food and drink will be arranged in UCD, according to numbers of attendees, and further detail will be available closer to the date of the meeting. An attestation of attendance will be provided by the organisers to facilitate any reimbursement of travel, accommodation and food costs for those who attend.

Please note, the research meeting will be held in the two days preceding Ireland’s national holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. It may be an opportunity for those who are interested in extending their stay to enjoy the celebrations, but it also means that accommodation during that week will be full quite quickly. We therefore recommend that interested attendees book their accommodation as soon as possible.

We would be very grateful if you might share this invitation with colleagues who may be interested in attending.

Should you have any further queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. With best wishes,
