Securing progress in mathematics through Lesson Study

Six primary schools in the London borough of Camden are currently working on a Lesson Study project with mathematics consultants Sami Miller and Nigel Bufton to secure Level 2b in Mathematics at the end of Y2, and then improve the progress of pupils across Years 3 and 4. Schools are focusing on:

  • Problem solving, representing and reasoning in mathematics
  • Oral and mental development in mathematics, and
  • Progression and effective pedagogy in mathematics.

All schools have undertaken one Lesson Study and have fed back to the project group on their learning and next steps.

Nigel Bufton and Jean Lang presented a poster session at the recent LSUK conference and emphasised the importance of getting senior leaders in schools involved when starting LS.

Watch this video of part of the poster session to find out from Nigel Bufton how the Lesson Study project has been introduced in Camden.
