On 26 September over 100 teachers, school leaders and academics attended this event at the University of Leicester. It was the first opportunity for schools across three East Midlands Teaching School Alliances to share with each other the lesson studies they have been developing with their partners at the School of Education, Leicester University. The three alliances are:
– Leicestershire based Affinity Teaching School Alliance, http://www.atsa.org.uk
– Northamptonshire based Brooke-Weston Teaching School Alliance http://bwtsa.brookeweston.com/AU_AboutUs.aspx
– Leicester City based LeTS alliance http://letslearn.org.uk
Opening the conference Professor Dave Pedder of Leicester University described Lesson Study as ‘the most exciting and promising classroom based innovation since AfL’.
Primary and Secondary school leaders shared their lesson studies and gave valuable insights into how LS is beginning to transform teacher learning in schools in the three alliances and also to start having visible impact on the learning of their pupils.
Keynotes on the day were given by Pete Dudley and Graham Handscomb and a panel of practitioners, leaders, and academics answered questions from the audience. CUREE and Iris Connect were amongst the exhibitors. But by far and away the most impressive aspect of the conference was the enthusiasm, energy and impact conveyed by the schools’ lesson study workshops themselves.
