Edge Hill Lesson Study Program Launch Conference – a huge success

Blog from Pete Dudley

EEF launch

The launch conference for the Education Endowment Funded Lesson Study Program at Edge Hill University was a great success. 100 head teachers and senior teachers attended the conference in London on 12 September 2013.

The program will develop guided work in literacy and mathematics through Lesson Study in over 80 schools in the East, the North West and the South West of England in order to accelerate pupil progress. It is designed around a randomised trial which is being conducted by the program evaluators at the London School of Economics who were also present at the conference.

Speaking at the conference were Catherine Lewis from the USA, Pete Dudley of LSUK, Kevan Collins, the Chief Executive of the Education Endowment Fund, Jo Evans a Devon Headteacher and Gill Jordan also of LSUK (whose Suffolk lesson studies are available on this site) and who, along with Di Hatchett who chaired the conference, is an expert adviser to the Edge Hill program.

This is the first and only time that Catherine Lewis has spoken in the UK. Catherine is pictured at the conference with Sue Teague, Headteacher of Caddington Village School which she visited during her stay. Catherine, probably more than anyone, has brought Lesson Study to the West over the last 15 or more years, and so it was a huge privilege to hear her speak. Participants at the conference found her an inspiration.

The Edge Hill program will run for two years. Updates will be available at:  http://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/projects/lesson-study-edge-hill-university
